margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgB0e6LUiHYavN7wTyHs3vATyVf4q-4i5bd6Wi94OQe9e98mPECPBRmFkadhYcmGm3u-DnakdDZhN1cJ9grNTYdMK4WL0d6sE8f6IlT3jodI8Y_cbW9ld0m_OqE_DZAYlH-E76iHP_zQQoE/s1600/Shoe_Care_Kit_Caddy_Header.png" /></a></div><br />Truly, today's task was as simple as stocking up on a few essentials and corralling them in an easy-to-access bin.  <br /><br />This was definitely another case of, <i>"Why did I wait so long to do this?!"</i>  <br /><br />I don't purchase new clothing seasonally, but shoes?  I have a bit of a love affair with shoes.  And just like everything else, there are times when I might save big on clearance flats or splurge on comfort and style.<br /><br />And while I appreciate having footwear for various outfit types and seasons, our Wisconsin weather does not always love our shoes in return.  My boots are always covered in a salty film, the boy's tennies tend to be mud magnets and the hubby's dress shoes become dull and dirty after multiple days of wear.  <br /><br />Shoes are an investment, but how do we extend their life and keep them looking nice season after season?  We create a shoe care kit, that is how!<br /><br /><div class="separator" style="clear: both; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiCRVvldSBlLMir6ihWpA1WARmu_gnKGNIhvZloaQfXORdDjKLLHeAsENLata1uOFWVpFrQ1p3unNoW7g59xykNBJ_BfR9I17CjOp60iBqYzaJrndBs1IkT0g_liSnLVfwWTVq6NF9YGAmE/s1600/Shoe_Care_Kit_Caddy_1.jpg" /></a></div><br />What you put in your shoe care kit will vary based on your environment and shoe types.  Different types of shoes require different types of care.  So to create our kit, I took note of the types of the shoes we wear most frequently.  <br /><br /><ul><li><b>Suede:</b> I added both a <a href="http://amzn.to/1diwalJ" target="_blank">suede cleaner</a> and an eraser bar (<a href="http://amzn.to/1cNMjPd" target="_blank">similar</a>).<b> </b></li><li><b>Leather:</b> I added <a href="http://amzn.to/1PvL5Kh" target="_blank">saddle soap</a> and a rag (to clean and soften) as well as <a href="http://amzn.to/1diz5dW" target="_blank">shoe polish</a> and an <a href="http://amzn.to/1JYwBvB" target="_blank">applicator brush</a>.<b> </b></li><li><b>Tennis Shoes:</b> I added baking soda and a toothbrush (combine baking soda with dish/laundry detergent and gently scrub shoe and soles with the toothbrush). </li></ul><br /><div class="separator" style="clear: both; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiqbxU6MDATegaLt6tXiwi35C2z7g2zrxwnb01zajFgFq52WTOxfU_hODvmNkU8yqmZlRJWRycUKHy28vPNfZ4s_gU_Gdt1q8auiYQAtREzhY3S5HDwQAjxOs-WXPuJsUJR2rfX-n-lYdC6/s1600/Shoe_Care_Kit_Caddy_2.jpg" /></a></div><br />I also added a variety of spare shoe laces, comfort pads and an anti-friction stick.  Those items were tossed into containers found at the dollar store and labeled with vinyl cut from my Silhouette.<br /><br />A few other items that could be added to the kit are: a magic eraser (for those really tough cleanings - not to be used on delicate shoe finishes), rain and stain repellent, color shine, conditioning cream, shoe grips, shoe horns, shoe whitener, etc...  Whatever footwear maintenance items that make sense based on your shoe wearing habits.  (Should we start taking a drink every time I type out the word <i>shoe</i>?)<br /><br /><div class="separator" style="clear: both; Quick Tip Tuesday: A Painting "Pane"

During a recent visit to a friend's home, I noticed she was working on the fun project of painting some old built-ins.  I was so excited about what she was up to, and I loved her quick solution to avoid painting pane after pane in the cabinet doors.<br /><br /><div class="separator" style="clear: both; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjNcQzTfxTejI2wPP6KfIKyFFQS7axQI9XmX08remkkim4LVSmXGEeiBNHoNpEUo1njikPs-9v_-siiM5LFzvDVVc086Q-sbjHeuUL1sN8eoyP5HNi40qzDPC5AY0_pyVl2n8z9ZWkpxVec/s1600/Paned_Glass_Window_Paint_Removal_Header.png" /></a></div><br />The thing with these types of projects, whether old doors, windows or cabinets, is that they can be a literal <i>pane in the glass</i>.  Using painters tape is not fool-proof.  Paint still tends to seep and can tear away all of your hard work when being peeled away.  Not to mention, the hours upon hours it would take to tape each pane both front and back.<br /><br />So she just painted.  And painted some more... both inside and out.  In fact, she started with primer, then followed up with a couple of coats of paint. <br /><br /><div class="separator" style="clear: both; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj8dOeBsIrbFh6ncxm9QulOH4-iHOyhzSsoCgjdiKEV0nFR_0i0nDAeEtvFfGrif0ddZdgfW0a22ftltvNbGR31IUD99hbpipCqKEe-Pg4Bd2i2yZoYQ5TMkrRTuAfnNVvR7rW_xRCtO7as/s1600/Paned_Glass_Window_Paint_Removal_1.jpg" /></a></div><br />And just like many of us, she is busy and let it sit for a few weeks before finishing up her project.  But that was still OK.  When it came time to finally fix those panes, it was easy as pie.<br /><br />She started by laying down some plastic on the floor below the built-ins to catch the falling paint.  That's right, the paint is about to fall off those glass panes!<br /><br />Next, she mixed vinegar and water into a spray bottle (heavy on the vinegar) and generously sprayed down the glass.<br /><br /><div class="separator" style="clear: both; Quick Tip Tuesday: Multi-Purpose Band Board

Tomorrow is tax day and I have spent a lot of time this past few weeks doing bookkeeping and reconciling.  After a day or two of filtering through documents and receipts, I knew I needed a handy little helper next to my laptop while I worked. <br /><br /><div class="separator" style="clear: both; Quick Tip Tuesday: Magical Stain Be-Gone

Quick Tip Tuesday: Handy Pick-up Helpers

Because our boys have the freedom to relax and play throughout our entire home, there are days I could spend hours following behind them while picking up their slug-like clutter trails.  Fellow parents, raise your hands if you are with me!<br /><br /><div class="separator" style="clear: both; the boy with the least amount of items in their basket throughout the day wins a special prize.  <br /><br />This is definitely not rocket science, but something that is super helpful in our daily routine.  I initially tried some dollar store laundry baskets, but found they were really bulky and didn't tuck away in-between uses as well as these bins that I love now (<i>not sponsored, just sharing trial and error</i>).  Any basket/bin will do, but there were a few things I looked for to keep this process easy peasy for the whole family:<br /><br /><ul><li><span style="color: #a20067;"><b>Collapsible</b></span>:  There are times when I don't want the bins sitting out or taking up floor space.  These bins fold down and tuck away nice and neat.</li><li><span style="color: #0ba89f;"><b>Portable</b></span>:  I selected bins that are extremely light weight to keep it easy for even our youngest boy to carry the bin around the house while putting away his belongings.</li><li><span style="color: #3a9545;"><b>Durable</b></span>:  Because the bins are used, filled and toted around daily, they get dirty.  I went with bins that are easy to clean and can withstand daily abuse.</li><li><span style="color: #dd3c6e;"><b>Cute</b></span>:  The bins are playful, colorful and match our decor.  I don't mind if they are sitting out throughout the day because they are not visually obtrusive (yet again, can still tuck away when cleaning up for company).</li><li><span style="color: #004c6c;"><b>Roomie</b></span>:  They offer enough storage to fit multiple items over the course of a day or two (or five).</li></ul><br /><br /><div class="separator" style="clear: both; Quick Tip Tuesday: Organized Travel

Hello pals!  I hope your week is off to a beautiful start!  I am currently in NYC for a really amazing brand collaboration, and have been enjoying my time in the city.  Always such a fun change from small town rural life.<br /><br />I apologize that I will be MIA for much of the week while exciting things are happening behind the scenes.  I will definitely be checking in during spare seconds and still have a few posts lined up.  I was also hoping to share with you our hardware selection for our kitchen yesterday, however, the pieces I selected for the glass cabinets didn't work out during Saturday's installation day.  Fingers crossed the new pieces arrive and everything goes swimmingly when I get back home.<br /><br />When I arrived at the hotel on Sunday, I realized I haven't yet shared a little gem of a packing tip.  I may be late to the game, but one little change really made a fabulous impact to my travel experience.<br /><br /><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;"><br /></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">I scour my Pinterest boards and search for outfits that are current for my closet (for example, I will search for "white jeans" or "floral top") and then I save those images to a Travel -> <i>Outfits</i> folder on <a href="https://www.dropbox.com/home" target="_blank">Dropbox</a>.  I also create a folder for <i>Travel Details/Docs</i>, <i>Photos</i> and <i>Receipts</i>.  This way, I can access the outfit inspiration while dressing for an event, I can access any travel documentation, important contacts and itineraries if something becomes misplaced and I can take a photo of receipts with my phone and save them to review later, or turn in for reimbursement if applicable.  I also keep hard copies of my receipts in a small poly envelope that I tuck into my planner.  Lastly, as I am taking photos with my phone, I can update them to Dropbox and delete them from my phone to save on storage.</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;"><br /></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">My last tip is to take everything out of your suitcase and hang it up instantly.  This is obvious, but it will prevent your luggage from looking like it was tossed by TSA security three times, lost, hit by a tornado and then ransacked by a dog who smells a treat at the very bottom.  Which is typically how mine looks within three minutes of arriving to the hotel.</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; Quick Tip Tuesday: Gift Wrap Drawer Liners

text-align: center;"></div>I use pretty papers and drawer liners with majority of my organizing projects, which spurs a constant stream of question on the topic.  So I thought I would touch on those items briefly in this week's Quick Tip Tuesday!<br /><br /><br /><span style="color: #999999;"><b>WHERE DO YOU FIND PRETTY DRAWER LINER?</b></span><br /><br />Everywhere!  Amazon has a pretty selection of <a href="http://amzn.to/189oMpn" target="_blank">MacBeth Collection patterns</a>, which I also occasionally spot at HomeGoods/Marshalls.  I am still loving and using my <a href="http://www.designyourwall.com/store/Marble-Marmi-Grey-Self-Adhesive-stone-wall-contact-covering-200x2256-pr-842.html" target="_blank">marble contact paper </a>frequently for all sorts of projects, and even the dollar store has come through at times.  Michaels and Target occasionally sell small rolls for around a dollar or two in their hot spot bins.  And I recently discovered <a href="http://www.chicshelfpaper.com/" target="_blank">Chic Shelf Paper</a> and can't wait to try out a few of their playful patterns in my kitchen.  If I can't find exactly what I am looking for, I make some!  More on that in a moment.<br /><br /><b><span style="color: #999999;">WHERE DO YOU FIND PRETTY GIFT WRAP?</span></b><br /><br />HomeGoods/Marshalls/TJ Maxx are my "go to" spot for pretty gift wrap.  I also love Paper Source, Target and smaller, locally owned boutiques.<br /><br /><b><span style="color: #999999;">HOW DO YOU KNOW WHICH TYPE OF PAPER TO USE ON YOUR PROJECTS?</span></b><br /><br />It really depends.  If I am doing something that won't receive a lot of wear and tear, I just go with straight gift wrap or decorative scrapbook paper.  A quick lining of a tray, covering a pretty box, junk drawer organizers, etc...  If something will be in contact with anything wet or is in need of an occasional cleaning, I opt for shelf liner.  Typically shelf liner is my jelly jam for kitchen/bathroom cabinets and drawers or to cover storage boxes that will receive a lot of love.<br /><br /><br />When we installed the coat closet system, each drawer was added to act as a catch-all drawer for each family member.  They will hold a variety of seasonal items and see a lot of action.  Some things may even be damp, such as hats, mittens, water bottles, etc...<br /><br /><div class="separator" style="clear: both;
